Speaker Johnson Considering Debt Commission

The nation’s deficits and national debt are too high.

House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana told the House that he is giving consideration to the establishment of a debt commission as the deficits continue and the national debt continues to rise.

“The consequences if we don’t act now are unbearable. We have a duty to the American people to explain this to them so they understand it well,” Speaker Johnson said. “We are going to establish a bipartisan debt commission to begin working on this crisis immediately.”

The chairman of the House Budget Committee, Representative Jodey Arrington of Texas, said,  “We need to be clear: both parties have contributed to our out-of-control spending and unsustainable spending.  We’ll need both parties to make structural changes to fix it. A bipartisan debt commission is a great place to start.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Congressman Arrington as he heads the House Budget Committee.
  • For discernment for Speaker Johnson as he considers measures to reduce government spending.
  • For the members of the bipartisan debt commission as they are appointed and assess the state of the national debt.
